Remedial Massage

Your treatment is tailored to you

Remedial massage is a massage technique that provides a remedy to muscular dysfunction.

Remedial massage separates scar tissue and realigns muscle tissue, with an aim to restore the body to a pain free, balanced state. Although we generally shy away from using long-winded, scientific sounding names, it does use such techniques as Soft Tissue Release (STR) Neuromuscular Technique (NMT) and Muscle Energy Technique (MET). Sometimes remedial massage can be a little uncomfortable, but only in a way that you will instinctively know is beneficial. At City Sports Massage you are never taken beyond your limit and are encouraged to communicate freely. In reality sports massage and remedial massage cross over. In the context of massage, 'remedial' simply means 'curative' or 'supplying a remedy' - and as most people are seeking a sports massage treatment to remedy their pain, discomfort or stress, sports and remedial massage are intertwined. You can read more about sports massage here.

More than just a deep tissue massage

We strongly encourage body awareness and self-treatment - by teaching stretching techniques that can be used outside of clinic time and focusing on investigating, and if necessary changing habits that are causing muscular distress. This maximises the effect of the treatment, making it more worthwhile for your body, and more cost effective for your wallet.

People are talking about our remedial massage treatments…

You gave me the best massage I’ve ever had in 2006. Sadly I left for NYC that year—I’ve had hundreds of massages since but they haven’t come close. Thanks!
