Jon’s Profile

City Sports Massage founder Jon Gee began his career by running away to the circus to perform high on the trapeze. After years spent taking care of performer safety at height, Jon honed his skills on the ground, and began a successful career in bodywork.

He now recruits and mentors other therapists, teaching advanced massage techniques and mindfulness. Most of Jon’s clients are professionals at the top of their industry, drawn to his effective, world-renown brand of sports massage—a powerful combination of bodywork, breathing awareness and stress reduction.

As well as being City Sports Massage’s Principal Therapist, Jon is currently studying for a diploma leading to an MA in counselling and psychotherapy in London.

What Clients Say About Jon

How good is it? it‘s the best damn professional massage I‘ve had! and I‘ve had a few, from Indian gurus in Berlin to sports therapists in Manhattan and they didn‘t come close. Jon is very strong, confident, knowledgeable, intuitive, sensitive and has a great couch-side manner. I cannot recommend him highly enough and will be back for more soon myself.

Jon taught me to breath properly. I hadn’t realised up until this point that I held my breath quite a lot. I had always wondered why swimming tired me out so much, after a length of the pool I needed to stop despite being a competent swimmer. I then realised I was holding my breath for the entire length, thus depriving my muscles of oxygen!

He also taught me to be aware of the tension in my body and to relax my muscles. But what I value most is the expert advise I receive, and knowing I am in safe and experienced hands.

I appreciate Jon’s honesty and if I need work on something, such as a particular area, he will tell me, and equally if I don’t, he will also tell me.

I had been experiencing chronic aches, pains and stiffness in my neck, shoulders and back, on and off for several years. This created a build up of tension and stress in all aspects of my everyday life. After taking professional advice and on several recommendations, I contacted City Sports Massage.

In less than 4 visits, spread over a few months, I have noticed a significant change for the better. I have benefited immensely from each session on both a physical and mental level. My problem areas have improved to a point where I am much more able to continue day to day without the pain and distraction I had previously experienced.

There is no ‘magic silver bullet’ for any form of treatment, yet in Jon Gee I have found someone who not only demonstrates complete integrity and dedication to his profession, but is also extremely conscientious. In my eyes, he truly is a master of his art and to whom I have absolute faith and trust.

I thoroughly look forward to my continuing improvement with Jon and the City Sports Massage team.

Jon helped me to prepare for the 2006 London Marathon. A weekly sports massage really helped to relax and flush out tired and stressed muscles, and gave me renewed energy for a further week’s training. Then three weeks before the event I suffered a torn hamstring: Jon provided remedial massage and stretching, gave me a series of exercises to follow, and greatly helped the physical recovery process. He also provided support and encouragement when I felt discouraged by the setback. His advice was sound, and his optimism and good sense were invaluable in helping me to the start line. I came in at 4hrs 48, my first marathon at the age of 58, and Jon was there to cheer me on. I recommend him highly.

After picking up a few injuries during my training for the London Marathon 2006, my friend recommended I visit Jon. From my first visit, Jon was extremely professional and made me feel totally at ease. After a few sessions, I could definitely notice a difference in my hip, where previously I was experiencing pain when running. Then, with just a few weeks to go before the marathon, I picked up another injury, this time to the back of my knee. Jon was very reassuring which made me feel more confident about overcoming my latest injury so late in to my training. I successfully completed the marathon, and I didn’t have any problems AT ALL with my knee!! I don’t doubt that without Jon’s expertise I wouldn’t have had such a (relatively!) pain-free race. I highly recommend Jon if you have any aches or pains – he’ll sort them out! Thanks again Jon, just hope I didn’t talk too much…

I’ve had two treatments now after the first made me feel nearly 20 years younger and full of vigour. After many years of regular training as a competitive swimmer life has got a lot more sedentary and desk-bound and I’ve stiffened up with it. Jon provided a good strong focused massage that really targeted the problems. I’ve been able (and motivated), to get out and do some training again.

Hi Jon, just to let you know that you did an absolute blinding job on my leg!…I finished my first ever half - marathon in 1.33.48, which was a bloody good time according to my coach. I feel glad I had the treatment and thanks for patching me up - the outcome may have been different if I didn’t…

I do a lot of sports and work on computers every day, and Jon has really helped me through massage and advice. If you have any injuries or tight muscles, Jon can really make a difference. I’ve tried a lot of different sports massage therapists and Jon is by far the best I’ve found.

I’ve had more massages than I can remember as I’ve suffered both chronic lower back pain after surgery and the shoulder/neck tension that comes with being desk-bound and sometimes stressed. In the 5-6 treatments I’ve had so far Jon’s given me more pain relief than all the sessions I’ve had before combined! And it’s more than just pain relief: each week I feel better than the week before. For the first time in a long time I’m getting somewhere!! To anyone with ongoing chronic back pain - I highly, highly recommend making an appointment with Jon.

I arranged an appointment with Jon after a weekend of unbearable pain in my shoulder. I have always been aware of the tension I develop in my upper back/neck area but it has gotten a lot worse since I started more intense gym and kick boxing workouts. So it was only a matter of time before the pain would worsen to an unbearable level. Having heard only positive comments about Jon’s abilities in massage therapy I booked the next available appointment. I went to the clinic and as soon as I entered the therapy room I felt well looked after. Jon made sure he asked all relevant questions about my state of health and possible illnesses in my family. The massage itself was great deep tissue work which was painful at times but I knew I had to go through it in order to be relieved of my pain. Concentrating on my most aching areas and communicating with me, Jon soon found out where the core of my problems was. As the hour was over I felt like all the weight had been taken off my back and the pain was gone. For the first time in days I could move my arms without any problems. Jon also advised me of how to improve my posture in order to prevent any future pain.

I will surely be back soon to continue the treatment.

I went to Jon at a time when I was feeling a bit stressed and found his massage therapy excellent. I frequently have different types of massages elsewhere however I would say this was the first time in my life that I actually felt like I’d had a proper massage. The massage itself however was only one element of the treatment as he helped me develop correct breathing techniques and also advised me on my diet, overall I would say a very holistic approach to well-being—Jon is an extremely knowledgeable guy.
